Feast Day of St. Maximilian Kolbe: August 14
St. Maximilian Maria Kolbe was born January 8, 1894 and died August 14, 1941. He was a Conventual Franciscan Priest and is the patron of drug addicts, families, journalists and the media, prisoners and the pro-life movement.
Father Kolbe craved to win all souls for Christ, relying totally on Immaculate Mary's help.
Suffering from TB, he founded the Militia Immaculata global movement, the largest monastery of its day, a mission in Japan; published Rycerz Niepokalanej, "Mary's Knight" magazine, reaching 1 million monthly. He sacrificed his life for another in Auschwitz.
Surviving 2 weeks of starvation, he died by lethal injection.
